This 4 hour presentation will give students an understanding on the following:
How a typical electricity supply and delivery system operates.
What the behavior of electricity is.
What the effect of hi voltage electricity has on the human body.
What overhead transmission and distribution lines are and the amount of voltage each carry.
The dangers associated with MVA's.
And why all downed lines should be considered dangerous.
The 4 hour lecture portion of the class will cover transmission & distribution systems, pole set ups, recognizing and minimizing hazards, vehicle accidents with down lines, vehicle accidents with people trapped, touch potential and step potential, pole top transformer fires, electricity and structure fires, underground electrical emergencies, hazard identification, equipment problems and environmental problems. Subsequent to the 2 hour lecture, a 2 hour practical will introduce the various components of the mobile prop, utilizing an up close approach to the various electrical components that todays firefighters are exposed.
